He could not complain, he was always a sucker for attention. … But he winced, and as amber eyes lowered to the red on his fingertips, that smile lessened until it turned into a frown. “It’s… not safe. You shouldn’t be here, you know.”
As fate would have it, he was to die before ever reaching his true potential. Cao Ang did not wish to leave his family, but knew he lost far too much blood to survive now. He wondered if it was an embrace of farewell, or perhaps it was a desperate plea for him to remain… If only he could. There were promises to fulfill, adventures to be had, a world to see. Reality was certainly unkind.
Slowly he pulled away and placed his hands on Xiahou Chong’s shoulders, looking straight into his silver speckled eyes. “Please, listen to me. Consider these my final orders to you: live on and forgive yourself. You did nothing wrong – I knew the outcome of my choice, but I still made it. I knew that I would likely die here.”
“But… in spite of all this, you still came for me. You kept your word – thank you. I’m… glad that you are the last thing I shall see before I depart from here…”
